On September 25th 2017, ICE WorkShop wins gold in the Best of NeoConnect competition for the annual industry conference. ICE WorkShop showcased a custom-built cottonwood table with live edge features. West Elm took silver for its height adjustable table. There were a number of other competitors, including prominent furniture brands. The award follows the launch of workshop.furniture and a year of high sales of its WorkShop custom line. The line emphasizes authentic, natural woods sourced from reclaimed lumber utilizing urban forestry practices. WorkShop partners with local artisans to build their products.
ICE designed the Cottonwood Creek dining and conference table exclusively for NeoConnect 2017. The refined industrial design started with cottonwood sister slabs harvested from urban environments in California. Cottonwood has a striking grain-like pattern. In California, cottonwoods are an abundant and fast growing species, making them a good choice for those concerned about sustainability. The industrial interior reverse live edge is paired with a more contemporary linear exterior edge. The high sheen, non-toxic finish on the wood added to the refined design of the base. The table's trapezoid stainless steel was polished to a mirror finish for the show. The synthesis of natural and industrial aesthetics is at the core of WorkShop's unique look. The ICE team shared the credit with Darren O'Hare and Derick Wyman, who co-designed the product with DeLinda Forsythe, ICE and WorkShop's founder and CEO.
